Macerator Pumps

Macerator pumps are designed to pump solids-laden wastewater such as raw sewage through smaller-diameter pipe lines. This is achieved by breaking up the solid items prior to pumping. A macerator toilet, macerator pump and lifting station can be installed below the sewer level, to allow you to install a cost effective WC or bathroom suite in the most difficult of spaces for domestic or commercial projects.

What is a macerator pump?

A macerator pump is a type of wastewater pump that includes sharp blades or grinders to chop up solid waste (like human waste and toilet paper) into a fine slurry, which can then be pumped through narrow pipes typically from toilets or appliances where standard plumbing isn't practical.

How It Works:
  • Waste Enters: Wastewater from a toilet, sink, shower, or appliance flows into the macerator
  • Maceration: Internal blades grind solid waste into a slurry (similar to a blender).
  • Pumping: The pump then moves the slurry through small-diameter pipes (as small as 22mm), either horizontally or vertically.

    Common Uses:
  • Installing toilets below the main sewer line (e.g. in basements or outbuildings)
  • Loft conversions or garden rooms without existing plumbing
  • Mobile homes, boats, and RVs
  • Adding bathrooms far from main soil stacks, where gravity drainage isn’t possible

    Advantages:
  • Allows flexible bathroom or kitchen installations
  • Eliminates need for large-diameter waste pipes
  • Pumps waste uphill or long distances (often 5–10m vertically and up to 100m horizontally)
  • Saves on costly excavation work
